Unfortunately the old definition of innovation equal new or different does not reflect today's reality for the speed of technology advancement. The modern definition of innovation is the intersection of invention and value. The original iPhone design was a step change invention and offered a step change in value-in-use over competitive smartphones. Each subsequent iteration of the iPhone has offered a smaller change in technology and value vs. the previous iteration and vs. competitive smartphones.
